GRAND FORKS — A Grand Forks man pleaded guilty Thursday, July 25, to 10 felony charges declaring he owned child pornography.
Jacob Vincent Gerszewski, 38, told police he had about 700 sexually explicit images and videos of children, according to an affidavit for his arrest.
A person turned in three cellphones to police that were reportedly found in a dumpster around the 800 block of Fourth Avenue South on Feb. 14, according to the affidavit. Investigators said one of the phones contained 10 images of mostly prepubescent girls, ranging from 3 to 9 years old. Gerszewski was listed as the phone’s user and police said they were able to verify his address and get a search warrant for his home.
Officers searched Gerszewski’s home April 5 and interviewed him, according to the affidavit. Investigators said Gerszewski admitted to owning the phone and looking at pornographic images of children. He “stated that he was not sure how the illegal images and videos were downloaded to his phone but there were over 700 images and videos of child pornography,” the affidavit said.
Gerszewski could face up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine on each charge and will be required to register as a sex offender for at least 15 years. He’s scheduled for sentencing Nov. 4.
